PHWD became officially established in 2020, but we have researched and strived to develop the best program possible! We are hoping for our first breeding to take place in 2024. While PHWD is relatively new to the scene we are incredibly passionate about what we do. We aim not only to improve upon our breeds health and soundness, but produce versatile working dogs!
About Us
Peak Horizon Working Dogs was a years long dream, finally realized the day Olympic came home. Through him I realized what a difference a well bred dog was when it came to training for work, sport, and general obedience. Before him I had my hands on numerous dogs during my training journey, most were sourced from less than ideal circumstances that ultimately caused distress to their owners and themselves. Had they had proper and ethical thought put behind them many issues that pet dog owners face would be avoided entirely. It was then that I began to learn about what true ethical dog breeding was and all the efforts good breeders put into the puppies they produced. I was enamored by the whole idea of improving upon dogs as a whole with each new generation and desperately wanted to be apart of it. I read book after book, listened to podcasts, read online articles, followed the journey of several breeders, spoke with many, took akc breeder courses, studied academic papers, and there was still so much I wanted to learn. Finally I decided the best way to continue this journey was to be hands on and that’s when I began the arduous task of settling on a breed for my next working and potential breeding dog. A year and a half later I finally decided on Labradors as they were popular for their athleticism, smarts, and even temperament all things I value highly in a working companion. What I hadn’t realized was how versatile some lines could be until I brought Olympic home; he showed he could calmly assist me in public, retrieve ducks all day long, or even dig into a sleeve on the field in the same day. The ability to switch drives and truly enjoy whatever it was I asked of him only fueled my passion to continue to have and hopefully produce good working dogs like him.

Ethics & Health Testing
All of our breeding dogs are our family and competitive partners whom we take time in developing and bringing the best out of. Because of this profit & frequent litters is the last thing on our minds when it comes to our dogs, we do not breed a dog simply because they are “pretty”. Being enthusiastically willing and able to work is what we strive to compete with and produce, as such health and temperament are our two biggest factors when it comes to choosing our puppy’s parents. We health test for all genetic condition relating to the breed. All potential breeding dogs will be tested for:
We are very picky with any breeding plans and will never choose for appearance alone, nor do we consider outlandish or nonsensical crossings. If a match does not benefit the future pups health, temperament, structure, and workability the breeding simply will not happen.
